Coach, New Hubs Team
-
Sep 2021 - Present
As a point person, I work with organizers nationwide who want to start a new hub in their corner of the country. Any 3 individuals can form a Sunrise hub, but before they make it onto the map, they must show that they’re serious about organizing. I guide the hub leaders on the path to understanding our Theory of Change, and I coach them on leading their first direct action as a hub.

Sunrise Movement is a youth-led movement to stop climate change and create millions of good jobs in the process. Beyond electing trusted leaders to Dallas city council, Texas legislature, or even federal office, Sunrise Dallas advocates for popular progressive policy by rallying the broader public to our side.As a Coordinator, I built relationships in the community and helped plan long-term strategies to organize our city around economic and climate justice. I led escalating direct actions pressuring federal representatives to endorse a Civilian Climate Corps and other bold climate policies; I witnessed firsthand my friends get arrested at an action outside Senator Ted Cruz’s house and another action outside the White House; I organized Sunrise Texas's press strategy in response to the disastrous February Texas Freeze (Winter Storm Uri); I worked with our policy team to enact bold climate legislation on a local level; and more! The Roosevelt Network changes who writes the rules by training, developing, and supporting emerging progressive policymakers, researchers, and advocates across the US, focusing on communities historically denied political power. As a researcher, I author progressive mock policy to solve major issues on the local level. Most recently, our team focused on Missouri’s especially heinous mass incarceration issue and offered tangible, bold solutions. With Dr. Alan Lambert and the entire lab group, the major focus of our research is to understand the role of emotion and affect in the process by which people form attitudes and judgments about persons and events. Our work pursues this aim in the context of research and theory on political psychology. Most recently, I designed a study measuring how different racial and ideological groups react to wealth inequality.

The world’s largest climate organization, WWF works in 100 countries and is supported by over 1 million members in the United States and six million globally. As an intern, I researched the implementation of climate policy, specifically in the US. Highlights included lobbying congressional staffs, writing reports on the federal infrastructure bill, and presenting to the organization on the future of climate justice from an international perspective. The Scientific Marksman (SciMark) is the student-run scientific journal at St. Mark's that publishes an annual issue showcasing the stories of local and national scientific achievements. As one of two Editors-in-Chief for both my junior and senior years, I helped direct all story assignments and design for a staff of more than 30 people. After the magazine failed to publish my sophomore year, working as Editor to rebuild the SciMark's legacy and outshine our previous successes was important to me personally. Not only did we publish the magazine in both my junior and senior years, but we were also one of a small minority of publications in our category to win the CSPA Gold Crown and NSPA Pacemaker - not just once, but back-to-back.
