Few people have the opportunity to report to a manager who is also a coach and mentor—but I did when I worked for Stu. Stu was clearly interested in helping me grow as an employee and a budding healthcare business executive. During my four years at DrFirst, Stu and I collaborated on multiple projects ranging from simple marketing campaigns to large corporate initiatives that require 10+ team members to collaborate and execute. I was always in awe of Stu’s ability to command a room and get people on board with ideas—even people who were initially on completely different pages. His meticulousness and attention to details was par to none and a skill that I have definitely come to admire and hope to improve on myself. When our company started changing on how to market our communication product, he asked me if I’d like to understand how to properly pitch and deliver the concept because he knew I wanted to learn more about the sales/marketing side of the company. He also offered to help understand key marketing concepts and lead challenging discussions with other teams so that we can accomplish our company goals. Whenever I have questions or concerns, Stu responds right away—and even follows up later in the week or month to make sure my issues have been resolved. His patience and willingness to help have made me motivated to do the best job I can. I look forward to another opportunity to work with Stu and any employee would be fortunate to have him as their manager.

What is most impressive about Stu is his ability to understand the business environment in which his marketing team represents. When Stu first joined DrFirst, he was new to the healthcare environment and quickly gained a strong knowledge base of healthcare workflows and associated challenges. He coupled that with remarkable technology knowledge to the point where he understood the DrFirst solution differentiator better than most in the company. It was always a pleasure to see Stu in front of clients telling the DrFirst story expressing a true understanding of client needs. It’s one thing to be able run an efficient and productive marketing department, and another to lead by example in bringing the marketing message to a diverse client base. Stu excels in both of these areas.
