Bio
Edwin Philippe Alegre, P.Eng
In the past 5 years I’ve worked under Zohair, I’ve seen and been a part of an exponential improvement within Ryerson Engineering. Zohair has one quality that stand above all others, his ability to entice passion within his constituents. When I began at Ryerson, student engagement capped off with a couple hundred students. Every year since then, the number of engaged student leaders grew. Over the next 4 years, with Zohair’s support, more and more students created interest and design groups. At the start of my university career, RESS supported roughly 20+ groups. Currently, RESS supports well over 40+ groups, with an average of 5 new ones seeking creation every year! Many of these students were mentored and supported by Zohair and they put Ryerson Engineering on the map. From interviews on Discovery, to spearheading conferences that raised hundreds of thousands of dollars in funding, Zohair has been a driving force behind it all. Many of these students enter the industry, well equipped to deal with the challenges and obstacles expected of future engineers. Zohair is a one of a kind leader, mentor, and support. If you’re lucky enough to ever have Zohair be a part of your team, be prepared to reach unexpected heights!

Zohair is by far one of the most hard-working people I have ever come across. I had the honor of working closely with him during my final year at Ryerson. Time and time again, he put the students' needs beyond his own and made sure to provide a safe, valuable and enriching experience for young future leaders. Zohair not only has the ability to lead effectively and passionately but also teach those around him how to do the same. Knowing and working with Zohair has made me appreciate many of the values we sometimes take for granted. I have become a better person through his mentorship, guidance, and support and many who know Zohair will tell you the same.
