When I was Chair of the Marie Curie Alumni Association, I got to know Fernanda. She was actively involved in the work of the Policy Working Group of the Marie Curie Alumni Association of which she later became Chair. Fernanda took responsibility for the planning of MCAA’s contribution to the EuroScience Open Forum in Toulouse, where she lives. Initially, Fernanda acted as a proposal advisor to MCAA members, who had ideas for session proposals. Of the 10 session proposals that MCAA submitted, 9 were accepted. MCAA also supported a Science Slam. Fernanda was responsible for liaising with the ESOF organisation in Toulouse. MCAA later added two extraordinary sessions and an MCAA member spoke in a plenary session with Carlos Moedas. Several of the MCAA ESOF sessions attracted press interest. The week after ESOF, the editorial of Nature focussed on an MCAA session about how best to support the career development of postdoctoral researchers. Fernanda also liaised with the European Commission about organising MCAA’s contribution to the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions ESOF Satellite Event. Fernanda made an outstanding contribution to an extremely successful ESOF for MCAA. Under Fernanda’s leadership, the MCAA Policy Working Group mobilized many volunteers to produce effective high-quality outputs: 1. MCAA Policy Webinars (in cooperation with EuroScience) are regularly broadcast that attract strong interest from inside and outside the MCAA membership. 2. In March 2018, MCAA produced a statement on the successor programme to Horizon 2020 called
