I have been working for the past year archiving historical photos and magazines in the museum's collection. Eventually these will be part of an on-line photo database and available to anyone researching subjects pertaining to the history of Palmer and the Matsu Borough. I am also currently working on a "finding guide", that will allow researchers to browse the content of individual photographic collections. As an anthropologist I have researched and studied with Native American basket weavers, learning their history and weaving techniques. I teach numerous workshops on Native American twined, coiled and pine needle basket weaving to adults and children. My adult classes have been taught through the Municipality of Anchorage Department of Parks and Rec., Anchorage and Four Valleys Community Schools, and the Palmer Museum of History and Art. Children's classes have been primarily through the Anchorage and Matsu Borough School Districts, the Girl Scouts of Alaska, and Campfire USA. I also spent two years with the Anchorage School District Artist in Residence program. I am currently creating a teachers guide for Native Alaskan weaving techniques. Show less

Curator Of Education
-
Feb 1993 - Jan 1995
I was employed as the Curator of Education for the Placer County Department of Museums, which oversaw six regional museums. In this role I created training materials, and recruited/trained a docent and volunteer pool of approximately 150 volunteers of all ages. I also worked in all aspects of exhibit planning and design, including both permanent and temporary displays. The county's sixth museum was created and opened during my tenure, and I was directly responsible for a display on local Native American history and culture, as well as collaborating on all other exhibits. This required interaction with local Native Americancommunities, research, artifact selection, and the creation of an audio dialogue that was incorporated into the exhibit. As the only anthropologist on staff, I was also responsible for seeing that the museum collections complied with all guidelines pertaining to NAGPRA. Show less
