Construction Materials Testing. I worked as a consultant inspector for Maine Department of Transportation. Inspection duties included checking temperatures of trucks that were unloading asphalt for paving operations, checking total tonnage used based on the surface area that was paved, checking air temperature to be sure it was in spec for paving operations, and making sure there were no debris, oil leaks, etc. on the milled surfaces that were to be paved. I also shadowed a level 3 inspector during guard rail and milling operations. Show less

Under general supervision of the R&D Director, I perform all types of tasks and tests in conjunction with developing ceramic membranes for use in liquid filtration. This includes sol gel chemistry, DNA handling and characterization, dip coating, end coating, and developing QC methods for product quality checks. I'm also part of the product development team, as well as the Health & Environmental Safety Committee. I operate specialized testing and analytical equipment including: HPLC, field emission SEM, biophotometers, and pH probes. I also organize and maintain R&D and clean room areas, conduct research to improve product development, maintain chemical & consumable inventories, manage a detailed membrane database, and write & update Standard Operating Procedures for our laboratory methods. As a research chemist, I will also be taking on more independent projects that will aim to enhance our product, improve our yield, and reduce cost/waste.
