Assistant Head of School & Dean Of Faculty at Pacific Ridge School
-
Jul 2020 - Aug 2023
First hired as a Spanish teacher and Activities Director, I have worn many hats and have been promoted which has allowed me to have a more positive impact on the school as the Assistant Head of School & Dean of Faculty at Pacific Ridge. Even as a dean and administrator, I have continued teaching Spanish throughout my entire tenure, maintaining my teaching career for over 23 years. My role is that of culture-keeper and connector, ensuring that school is a safe, fulfilling, fun, and inclusive place for all students and faculty. Some of my proudest achievements include:🔹 Transformed archaic evaluation system into multi-year, cyclical Faculty Growth and Development initiative by researching, planning, and implementing new system with goal of developing faculty as individuals and educators.🔹 Ensure Global Programs run smoothly (simultaneous trips for up to 92% of middle/upper community) by supervising program director, chaperoning, and/or serving as member of incident command.🔹 Recruit/hire culturally competent/fluent, student-centered faculty by working alongside diversity-focused search firms & local affinity-based educator associations, screening candidates for pedagogical/philosophical fit, and collaborating with department chairs to select just-right candidates.🔹 Promote DEI focus of Strategic Plan through intentional recruitment and retention of faculty of color by intentionally scheduling regular check-ins and stay interviews with marginalized faculty and mediating conversations where misunderstandings might cause unintended division.🔹 Resolve interpersonal conflicts among community members by conducting mediating difficult conversations, and employing various methods to reveal positive intentions and goals to promote compromise and reach resolution.🔹 Build moments of connection & philosophical alignment with school culture through coordination of annual 2-week faculty orientation, faculty/staff meetings, and social events that foster connection.
