While fulfilling my obligation to present at the Student Leadership Conference at Western Illinois University. I always explore different speakers that could possibly reinvigorate and inspire my own thinking. Our dynamic keynote speaker did just that. Tish Norman was captivating in the way she intended to stretching the minds of the young leaders in the room. Her keynote was titled "Mindset, Motivation, and Focus to be Successful in College" and she challenge the young leaders to step outside their proverbial boxes and also explore our individual qualities that make us unique. Her passion was on display and I was happy to be in the room where she was teaching. Be prepared to be challenged to grow, to dance and meet new people when Tish presents. LeRon W.

Introduction to African American History is a historical survey of the African-American experience from its origins in African culture to the present. The study of the experience of Africans in America and throughout the African diaspora will be examined, beginning in Africa, the birthplace of civilization and humanity, and will extend to the history of people of African descent in the United States today. My course analysis is an interdisciplinary approach to explore some of the major themes that illustrate the influence of the construction of African American realities, in the past and present, i.e., African heritage, the middle passage, slavery, segregation, second class citizenship, survival skills, gender politics, politics, culture, economics, artistic, and their impact on the enduring Black community.
