In a word, I was second in command of the Infantry Anti-Armor company, ready to assume command in my commander's absence. Daily responsibilities were to ensure my commander always had categorical access to all of his combat power (soldiers, weapons, vehicles, communications...) In order to accomplish this, I had to supervise officers and non-commissioned officers internally and to coordinate externally in order to ensure a high state of readiness for all logistical commodities which meant I had to master the Army's various log systems as well as develop my indirect, informal leadership skills as I was not what the Army refers to as a "Green Tab" leader. The spectrum of the commodites I was responsible for maintaining were our larger, crew-served weapons, the TOW II anti-armor missile launchers, the M2 .50 caliber machine guns, and the Mk-19 automatic grenade launcher. I also ensured our trucks were always in a high state of readiness. We had 28 Humvee's; 20 of which were the turtleshell gun trucks and 8 cargo trucks. MTF... Show less

I earned the Military Occupational Skill code of 11H, Anti-Armor Infantryman. However, upon arriving to Ft Ord, I was assigned to the Battalion 81mm Mortar Platoon due to manning issues. I served as ammo bearer, assistant gunner, gunner, and platoon leader's driver and subsequently deployed with my brothers in the Mortar Platoon to the Republic of Panama to participate in training at the Jungle Operations Training Course as well as to participate in a "Show of Force" operation called Nimrod Dancer. The conclusion of Nimrod Dancer was the formal invasion of Panama, called Operation Just Cause, which was intended to unseat Manuel Noriega, protect American lives, restore democracy, and to preserve the integrity of existing treaties about the Panama Canal.
