Alabama-based non-profit Hope for Gabe established Ride4Gabe (R4G), an annual trans-America bicycle trek, in 2014. As an original R4G endurance cyclist I have participated in all aspects of planning for this continuous effort to raise awareness for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. As a result of our efforts, laws have been passed, and the Hope for Gabe Foundation has established key relationships with researchers, advocates, and industry partners across the country. As a result of our efforts, laws have been passed, and the Hope for Gabe Foundation has established key relationships with researchers, advocates, and industry partners across the country. In 2014, we participated in a nationwide canvassing that collected over 100,000 signatures, leading to a groundswell that resulted in the first FDA drug approval for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. In 2015, we led an effort that resulted in a new state law in Alabama called the Gabe Griffin Right to Try Act. In 2016, we helped a bipartisan group of lawmakers push the 21st Century Cures Act into federal law and also passed a law to create a Rare Disease Advisory Council in the State of Alabama. After successful Ride4Gabe efforts in 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2019, five cyclists have pedaled over 10,000 miles across thirty-three U.S. States during Ride4Gabe events and raised over $150,000 to continue the mission. We are hopeful that Gabe will become one of the first patients with a terminal condition to access life-saving gene therapy treatment. Planning is currently underway for our next cross country bicycle trek. Show less Alabama-based non-profit Hope for Gabe established Ride4Gabe (R4G), an annual trans-America bicycle trek, in 2014.
