As the sole data scientist in BT, I wear many hats. Some of my projects in random order: - Various NLP projects: finetune and implement a variety of BERT models to categorise articles, recommend similar articles, and extract metadata from articles, among others. - Frontpage optimization - design, implement and analyze A/B tests for ranking of content - Schibsted AI course - instructor. BT is part of the Schibsted media group, which offers an internal AI course for its employees. I work as an instructor in this course, where I teach fundamentals about deep learning and NLP. - Create & maintain various analytical dashboards and other analytical tools - MediaFutures - industry partner. BT is a partner in the mediafutures.no research collaboration. I am involved as an industry expert in the work package focused on recommendation & personalisation. As industry expert, I supervise master students, give presentations, and provide input for the work package from a domain perspective. - Maintain & update Airflow jobs Stack: Airflow, AWS (Lambda, Sagemaker, SQS, Elasticache), Huggingface, Snowflake, Python, R. After completing my traineeship at Xomnia, I stayed on at the UMC Utrecht to continue work on the projects that I was involved in, as well as doing several projects for the hematology department. Some examples of the latter are:- Explore possible new biomarkers for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)- Unsupervised clustering of patients based on raw hematology analyzer data - Prediction of subclinical anemia

The UMC Utrecht started an innovative programme to implement AI and predictive analytics in daily practice at the hospital. I was involved in a variety of projects during my traineeship, where I contributed to the development of:- An anomaly detection model for brain MRI scans using deep learning- A cardiovascular risk dashboard- A webapp to visualise medication history of antipsychotics

Fresh out of an unfinished PhD, I started Xomnia's Data Science traineeship to obtain some valuable experience outside of academia and get a solid basis in Python. At some point during this year, my default language for projects switched from R to Python. This traineeship placed me at UMC Utrecht for four days a week as a data scientist. Fridays were reserved for training @ Xomnia HQ, these training focused on both hard and soft skills. In addition to my placement at UMC Utrecht, I contributed to the following projects outside the UMC: - Prediction of ICD-10 diagnoses codes (text mining/NLP - Xomnia) - Prediction of atrial fibrillation in patients with a congenital heart disease (Amsterdam UMC) Show less

During my PhD, I worked on a models for a specific type of capture-recapture data that are used to estimate the population size of elusive or stigmatised populations. This PhD was a natural extension of my master thesis, where I developed a new outlier metric for these models. In the second year I made the difficult but wise decision to quit my PhD for a variety of reasons.
