I had the wonderful opportunity to work as an intern at VIIVA visual for Sirpa Rytkönen. During my time with her, I learned to create 3D models of furniture and exhibition stands in SketchUp. I also assisted her with marketing, social media, and graphic design. Sirpa mentored me in all things business, and was the catalyst for me starting my own company. My duties mostly included creating visual content for the institute’s various products and services, as well as blog posts, their website, magazine articles, and more. This included tasks having to do with graphic design, illustration, photography, formatting page layouts for various reports and publications, and image editing. I also occasionally helped edit academic text and speeches that were written in English. Some of the projects that I worked on included: creating an image bank of photos for the institution to use, managing and photographing the institute’s staff and employees (about 80 persons) over the course of three months, visually branding and creating all the visual materials (abstracts, schedule, and room signs) for the 15th Conference on Lexicography in the Nordic Region, and creating a large poster (in three different languages) showcasing all the various dictionaries published by the institute and managing the printing process of it. After having been at the institute for four months, my supervisor was so impressed by my work that I was hired to completely redesign a web-based platform for the institute's dictionaries and databases, that met the mandatory web accessibility guidelines. This consisted of working with the institute’s Information Management team and in collaboration with many of the different editors and researches at the institute, to create a product that brought together all of their wishes and visions. The color scheme and design also needed to accommodate the various different brand identities that the existing dictionaries and databases had. This was accomplished by me designing original logos for the different publications. The final design is responsive, flexible in both function and form, completely meets the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, and goes along with the institute’s existing visual brand identity. I also created a complete set of visual guidelines for implementing the final design. Show less

My primary responsibilities revolved around customer service, IT-support, unpacking and packing loads of books, shelving, and organizing returns and holds. Due to my previous experience with social media and visual design, I also took on the role of creating content for and updating the library's social media accounts, planning and constructing book displays, and helping plan and organize events within the library. One major project that I took on was creating a social media campaign to promote Pitäjänmäki library's different loan materials through a Christmas calendar. For 25 days in December, a different book, CD, or movie was showcased on both Instagram and Facebook. All the different materials were picked by either myself or other staff members at the library. The images for the Christmas calendar were planned, photographed, and created by me. The posting schedule and the visual display of the materials at the library were fully coordinated by me.
