Bio
Catherine M Brown
Jeni and I have co-chaired the UCLA Department of Information Studies Mentor Program for about ten years now. I've known her since before she became a librarian; when she was a Library Assistant at UCLA. Jeni provides the graduate students interested in public librarianship with LAPL mentors. She is completely committed to whatever she does and always meets her deadlines before anyone else. I never have to worry when Jeni is on the job! Jeni is a very energetic, organized and a compassionate person, and has the interests of her community and her clients as her top priority. She has a strong background in Latino, Asian and Pacific Islander culture, and is completely a part of that. She keeps abreast with whatever is going on in the world and in the communities, as well as professionally. Whenever I think of LAPL, I think of Jeni Ishimoto.

Bilingual (Spanish language) library manager with LAPL's Westchester and John Muir branches. I've organized author programs, live music performances, readings, adult financial education, and much more. Held regular basic computer classes each month tailored for adult students. In-depth collection development for a wide variety of patrons from families to adults, which include ESL students, sophisticated readers & commuting professionals. Intensive reference desk work for the same. Enjoy learning new technology and databases to share with staff and patrons, and finding effective workarounds. I am a member of the LAPL Adult Programming Task Force and have been active in LAPL's Mentorship Program. Show less

Bilingual Children's Librarian
-
2006 - 2010
As a bilingual Children's Librarian, I have enjoyed bringing all my previous library work to bear with the mainly youthful population that comprise our patrons. My work involves early literacy, bilingual programming, information desk work for children-adults, and collection development for the flagship Arroyo Seco Regional Branch of the Los Angeles Public Library. I was later half time children's at Silver Lake, with another large patronage of families and young children.
