I am writing this recommendation to acknowledge the continued positive impact that Mr. Kyle Chester has made on me as a student, intern, and working GIS professional. I met Kyle at my first job in the field as an intern with Xcel Energy's Siting & Land Rights department. Right from the beginning, Kyle became a close mentor to me, helping me develop my technical skills on multiple GIS technology platforms, assisting me in networking and career coaching, and setting an impressive example of professionalism throughout. Kyle is a exceptional talent and a fantastic leader!

I am very pleased to write this recommendation for Kyle Chester. My main interaction with him was as a teacher and adviser while he was a graduate student in the MGIS program at the University of Minnesota. He completed his degree with flying colors in Fall 2010. He was a very strong student in good academic standing with a strong GPA. He took my GIS 8501 course in Fall 2007 and did an outstanding job in the class. He turned assignments in on time and proved to have very good oral and written communication skills. He also possessed solid research skills and was a pleasure to have in class. I assigned group projects in the course and Kyle did extremely well in these situations as well. Not only was Kyle a very good student but he was also well liked by his fellow students. He is a courteous, responsible, mature and very hard-working. He came to the MGIS program with a very solid Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography from Gustavus Adolphus College as well as practical GIS experience working as an intern for the City of Sioux Falls. Since joining the MGIS program in Fall 2007, he was initially involved in Transportation Studies and was elected to the Board of Directors for the Interdisciplinary Transportation Student Organization. Additionally, he participated in our GIS Student Organization. This was a clear indication that he was very enthusiastic about his academic work but also participated actively in his interest areas by being professionally active. While in the program he also participated in a couple of excellent student opportunities such as a summer GIS internship one year and then he was selected for the very competitive ESRI User Conference Student Assistantship Program the following summer. Kyle was able to secure a job in the profession before he even completed his MGIS degree; a strong indicator of his stellar capabilities.
