At the time I joined, the business and industry were in growth mode and cashing in on the residential construction boom of the early 00s. Managed 10 direct reports and over 500 indirect reports. Business was highly seasonal and my biggest challenge was developing a workforce that could easily swell from 200 to 500 in the spring and back down to 200 in the fall. Trainied heavily in Alcoa's version of the Toyota Production System of Lean Manufacturing. Increased capacity of the plant, reduced changeover times, raised the first pass yield. Alcoa was just starting a program to produce custom colored vinyl siding. Alcoa later sold this division to Ply-Gem Industries. I left Alcoa to complete my Master's Degree at the University of Virginia. Show less
