Luisa Fernandez was an exceptional colleague while we worked together at WMATA. she was always ready to help and lend a hand whenever I had a question or needed assistance. I found her analysis and recommendations to be through, insightful and always on point. She was hard-working and always will to get the job done right in the right way. Any finance manager looking to augment his or her team would find Luisa to be an excellent addition!

I had the extreme benefit of working with Luisa while volunteering on the Washington, DC Board of Directors of ALPFA. Being devoted to a volunteer opportunity is a big challenge; especially when that opportunity includes daily leadership on a myriad issues, some of which one may have never dealt with before. To have to make those decisions or at least the final decision, while balancing the interests of membership, sponsors and the National staff wasn't easy. Thank you Luisa for including me on some of those decisions and preparing me not only to take responsibility, but have the sense to share it with others. Luisa's tenure as President coincided with the "Great Recession" and she helped to lead us through it by converting sponsors to partners. She was creative and found ways for organizations to find value in ALPFA, even while they were making cuts in other places. Our final month of September was a tribute to all of the work she had done with those partners and with developing the board. For those of us in whom she spotted potential, she gave responsibility. Because of that wisdom, we finished the year with three (3) incredibly successful events: "Women of ALPFA" on 9/11, "An Evening with the SEC" on 9/28 and "The Passion Test" for Prudential Insurance Co on 9/29. Each event was a success either in number of attendees, quality of content, or lingering local buzz. Though we couldn't ask Luisa to continue her volunteer Presidential service for a 3rd year, I am personally heartened that she chose to remain on our DC board of directors as "Past President," complete with all of her institutional knowledge and exemplary character.
