Sharlene has demonstrated strong career motivation and engagement with the upReach programme since joining as an Associate, as reflected by her receiving the Gold Government and Public Sector Springboard Award. Sharlene has shown huge drive and commitment to enhance her skills further whilst on the programme, attending a myriad of sessions to further enhance herself professionally. Sharlene has made full use of the programme by attending Video Forums, strengthening her application skills/commercial awareness, mock interviews to improve her communication skills and several insight days to learn more about different firms’ cultures. It has been a pleasure to work with such a motivated and talented individual, and I look forward to seeing where you go next!

      • Challenges Online is a week long programme which aims to collaborate students together to research a topic that interests them to enable them to create change that may happen on an local, national or international scale, this is with the support from leading academics and postgraduate facilitators. • Challenges Online allows you to focus on questions and issues you are passionate about and create a project that would make a difference. Participating in Challenges Online means that you can develop your team working, project planning, persuading, influencing, negotiating and online networking skills, which would be employable assets needed in the future post university. Following the Challenges Online week, the University can support you to continue with your projects so you can make a longer-term impact. • During the Challenges week my team of 5 were investigating ways in which we can make the food system more sustainable and healthier in the UK. This was to be implemented on a national scale; hence we developed a manifesto which was emailed to Ben Bradshaw for him to take this proposal further in government and politics. • My responsibility was to specifically focus on the advertisement sector and how the UK can advertise sustainable and healthy foods to the public so there can be a shift in consumer food choices to a more sustainable and healthier option. Within the advertisement sector I particularly investigated broadcast advertising, through TV and radio channels, and non-broadcast advertising, through print, cinema, and online & social media channels. The main aim of our project is to have our manifesto reviewed in politics and with changes in place, have the manifesto implemented nationwide.
