As a Graphic Design Adjunct Instructor at Cincinnati State, I teach (and also created the entire course curriculum) for the User Interface Design class - a course on researching, designing, and prototyping an interface for web and mobile products. At completion of the course, students are able to:Analyze, assess, and critique digital product design.Analyze, discuss, and make informed decisions about design, industry trends, and ethics.Effectively convey ideas and processes when writing, or presenting design concepts tostakeholders.Be better equipped with the skills needed to pursue a career in digital design.Students must research, design, and prototype an interface for desktop and mobile, based off of a randomly assigned, existing, real-world site. Their websites must balance function and form; it should not only be well-designed and user-focused, but should also solve a defined problem. This semester-long project is broken down into weekly deliverables (similar to real-world web design projects), and each week’s segment builds on the next. Students learn to use Adobe XD, as well as other tools such as Balsamiq, UserBit, etc. to research, design, prototype, and conduct user testing and card sort testing.
