To adapt to these conditions plants are able of rapid changes in gene expression mediated by transcription factors in combination with chromatin remodeling. ATP-dependent chromatin remodeling complexes rearrange chromatin by changing the accessibility of the associated DNA. In my project we focus on two Arabidopsis thaliana genes from Snf2 subfamily of chromatin remodeling ATPases, AtCHR12 and AtCHR23. We are investigating the role of these genes in plant development and growth in response to the environment, e.g. stress conditions. To understand the process of regulation of growth we want to identify the targets of these complexes and the subunits of these complexes. Regulation of growth in response to environment is an important issue also in crops, therefore we want to extend our studies to analyze the orthologs of Arabidopsis chromatin remodeling genes in crops, like tomato (Solanum lycopersicum). However, production from crops cannot suitable replace petroleum based fuels, therefore an alternative source is necessay. This can be microalgae. They grow very fast and the oil content in microalgae is up to 80% by weight of dry biomass. We focused on utilization of the remains from microalgae after oil extraction. These remains are possible to ferment to create methane. We compared microbial communities from fermenters before and after seeding these fermenters by algae material. This analysis is important to find out the most presented methane producing microorganisms to later create conditions optimal for this microbe to make utilization more effective. Show less
