As someone interested in persuing a career in environmental policy but without experience in the field, I contacted Pierre for an informational interview after reading some of his blog posts on switchboard.nrdc.org. Pierre put me at ease, and readily shared his experiences as a policy analyst at the NRDC and at previous jobs. In his written work as well as in his speech, Pierre succeeds at making clean energy sound "cool" by highlighting the latest innovations and emphasizing the steps government can take or is taking towards a greener future. It was inspiring to hear him speak of NRDC's enthusiasm for the passage of the Waxman-Markey climate legislation, for which he had lobbied on Capitol Hill. He suggested several government agencies and non profits for me to contact for volunteering or internships. I contacted one of these, the NY League of Conservation Voters, interviewed, and will be starting my internship tomorrow. I would recommend speaking to Pierre to anyone who wants to learn about energy efficiency or renewable energy, and anyone interested in working in the environmental policy field.

I led several emerging clean energy technology demonstration pilots, research initiatives and programs across the spectrum of distributed energy resources (DER) technologies. DERs included flexible demand response, smart energy efficiency, energy storage, and smart electric vehicle charging. Specific projects and programs I managed included managing the Silicon Valley Clean Energy (SVCE) Innovation Onramp program, completing a multi-year, CEC EPIC-funded demand response and storage demonstration pilot that developed a blueprint for behind the meter demand response and storage resources to earn monetized value by bidding as flexible portfolios into the wholesale electricity market operated by the California Independent System Operator (CAISO), and managing an electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure market research study for the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD). I also served as a technical scoring judge for the 2020 California Sustainable Energy Entrepreneur Development (“CalSEED”) Initiative innovation concept and business-entrepreneur incubator program. And I conduct direct-report managing responsibilities and provide career mentoring for mid- and early-stage managers and associates.
