1095 Skagit Program Coordinator – WSU Extension Skagit County
-
Sep 2016 - Aug 2017
I worked to strengthen a coordinated response to Food Access and Hunger Relief in Skagit County with specific emphasis on childhood food insecurity. I accomplished this by building the capacity of the 1095 Skagit Coalition, whose mission is to collaborate, coordinate and communicate with families and community partners to ensure that every child in Skagit County eats three nutritious meals, 365 days a year. I coordinated the launch of a county-wide backpack program initiative called CHOW in partnership with the Helping Hands Food Bank, WSU Extension Skagit, United Way of Skagit County, and Skagit Publishing. CHOW provides bags of food on the weekends to school aged children deemed particularly at risk of food insecurity. I also gathered information on county Summer Meal sites in order to coordinate effective organization of summer meal programming to ensure maximum efficiency and widespread hunger relief. Show less

High School Spanish & Global Issues Teacher
-
Jul 2014 - Aug 2016
I taught 5-6 classes of middle- and high-school Spanish, as well as one course of Global Issues, in which we discusses various topics including climate change, global corporate power and influence, the refugee crisis in the Middle East and elsewhere, and the structure of the international political order, among other issues. I created my own lessons for all these classes, with some dependence on existing Spanish curriculum, but with no other foreign language department support in the school.
