  - Explored Neural collaborative filtering. - Studied the performance gain by replacing dot product in traditional collaborative filtering models with learned similarity, using a multi-layer perceptron (MLP). - Demonstrated that in terms of computational expensiveness and mere accuracy, with a proper hyperparameter selection like adding explicit bias, a simple dot product substantially outperforms the learned similarities in MLP (specifically the NeuMF model defined in ‘Neural collaborative filtering’ paper presented at 26th International World Wide Web Conference, April 2017. - Have shown that MLPs are too costly to use for item recommendation in production environments.
