As a Software Developer and Data Scientist at Olds College of Agriculture & Technology, my role is integral to the implementation and advancement of the HyperLayer Data Concept at the Smart Farm. I play a key part in developing and maintaining the software systems and algorithms that enable the compilation, analysis, and utilization of diverse agricultural data. My responsibilities include: Software Development: I am responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining software systems that facilitate the collection, storage, and analysis of various types of agricultural data. This involves coding, testing, debugging, and documenting software components and applications. Database Management: I contribute to the design and management of a centralized database that stores standardized georeferenced agricultural data from multiple sources. Ensuring data integrity, security, and efficient retrieval are essential aspects of my work. Collaboration and Integration: I collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including researchers, agronomists, and other stakeholders, to understand their data needs and requirements. My role involves integrating different layers of information, such as topographical data, soil nutrient mapping, imagery, and yield data, into a unified framework for comprehensive analysis. Innovation and Advancement: I have the opportunity to drive innovation by exploring new technologies, algorithms, and methodologies that enhance the HyperLayer Data Concept. During my MDREP internship as a GIS Developer, I managed a small team and worked on an open-source GIS project. As Project Manager, I ensured timely milestones and coordinated workflow. We used Python, GeoServer, PostgreSQL, OpenLayers v6 API, and Open Route Service. I actively coded GIS application components using Python and integrated GeoServer for spatial data serving. With GeoServer, we rendered and managed spatial data layers efficiently. OpenLayers v6 API facilitated interactive maps and spatial queries for user-friendly data visualization. To enhance functionality, I integrated the Open Route Service API. This enabled drive time analysis, empowering users with accurate travel time and distance calculations. Our application provided comprehensive GIS capabilities and practicality. My internship at MDREP deepened my GIS development and project management skills. Utilizing Python, GeoServer, PostgreSQL, OpenLayers v6 API, and Open Route Service, we delivered a successful open-source GIS project. I gained valuable experience in spatial data management and user interface design. Overall, this internship was a valuable opportunity to contribute to a meaningful project and develop expertise in Python-based GIS development.
