Anglicare Australia is a peak social advocacy organisation that brings together over 40 individual member agencies from around Australia. We advocate at a national level on behalf of those individuals and families who access the services provided by network members in a bid to change the system for the better. We strive to help politicians understand that without this change, life for people living on the edge of our society may never improve. Working with the Director of Policy and Research, I managed and provided support in: • coordinating national research projects - including managing the Rental Affordability Snapshot (RAS) that looks at the lived experience of people in search of housing while living on low incomes. The project involved 20 member agencies around Australia to draw a national picture of the extent of housing unaffordability. It has garnered much media attention every April; • making a connection between research, policy and practice so that social policy decisions in Australia are informed by evidence; • providing submissions to the government with regard to economic and social policies that impact on people with disadvantage backgrounds, such as homeless people and children in out-of-home- care; • engaging and collaborating with other advocacy organisations on campaigns to create change for the better; • engaging the public and raising awareness around issues we advocate for, e.g. housing affordability, income adequacy and client-centred aged care and disability reforms.

During the internship, I documented the organisation's history and achievement for gender equality nationally and globally through liaising with stakeholders past and present, as well as researching on historical documents. I also assisted in organising events around International Women's Day (IWD), including the Canberra fundraising lunch, and managing donations and merchandise.
