An elementary investigation into the possibility of harvesting energy using vortex-induced vibrations(VIV). This involved the study of the phenomenon of vortex shedding and it's characterization using a non-dimensional parameter, the Strouhal number. The relationship between the Strouhal number and VIV was investigated after which the energy output of a miniature device based on the principle was determined.
