Food Frontier is the independent think tank on alternative proteins in Australia and New Zealand. Funded by grants and donations, we’re committed to growing our region’s protein supply with new, sustainable and nutritious options that create value for businesses, farmers and consumers.Food Frontier's research, events and engagements help businesses, policymakers and innovators understand the emergence and unlock the benefits of plant-based meat, precision fermentation and cultivated meat. Since 2017, our research and events – undertaken with the likes of Deloitte, Austrade and the National Farmers Federation – have helped inform and connect start-ups, grocery giants, farming bodies and governments, and have reached over 50 million people via the media.

Previous Roles

Thomas held various roles between 2010–2017 driving environmental, food systems and poverty alleviation initiatives across five continents. He was Director of Communications for Oaktree's Live Below the Line campaign and President of UY Media, among several other positions. Thomas has represented Australia in a climate change film for IMAX and the COP21 Paris Summit; helped lead a campaign that raised $1.6M for poverty alleviation in Cambodia; worked with indigenous communities on a conservation initiative in Borneo; directed an award-winning short film on social movements; and volunteered as a journalist at the London Olympic Games to tell the stories of athletes from disadvantaged Pacific Island communities.Through strategy, media and stakeholder engagement, public speaking, fundraising and project management, Thomas has helped lead numerous projects to drive political, corporate and consumer change for the good of people, the planet and our fellow species.
