Dr. Roberts is widely respected as an experienced observer of Central Asian politics, so it was with great confidence that we turned to him to update USAID's democracy assessment in Turkmenistan and to provide recommendations for possible programs in post-Niyazov Turkmenistan. His insights to the challenges and opportunities facing our program were acurate and timely, due in part to his strong Russian-language skills that allowed him to communciate directly with local counterparts. During the course of the assignment, Dr. Roberts was accessible and easy to work with, and he was responsive to our needs and questions. As both a former colleague and a client of his consulting services, I would recommend him for similar type work without reservation.

I've "worked" with Sean Roberts in two capacities - as a student in his Politics of Central Asia class at Georgetown University and a program I helped run at the Open Society Institute commissioned a paper from him. As a professor, his class was one of the most interesting during my time as a grad student at Georgetown. His teaching style is engaging and he brings significant "real world" experience into the class room. His grading was always fair and he was more than willing to meet and discuss issues via email or outside of class. As a scholar, his work was top-notch We commissioned a paper from Sean on Democracy Promotion in Central Asia. He met every deadline and produced a paper that was well received by my supervisor and the seminar participants. His ideas and paper generated a lively discussion during the seminar on the topic. I'd highly recommend him for any project.
