With the new reality of <$50 oil, the pressure is on for oil sands companies to reduce operating costs to ensure sustainability and profitability. This can be achieved through better understanding of oil sands processes via monitoring. The Suncor Applied Research Fellowship will focus on identifying promising new sensors (developed by inventors), facilitating field trials, and assuring rapid commercialization to assist oil sands producers in driving down costs while continuing to improve environmental and social responsibility. Areas of focus include oil extraction and production, water management, GHGs, and tailings management and reclamation. After establishing a solid foundation for a first-ever NAIT-SAIT applied research partnership/platform focused on improving economic and environmental sustainability of SAGD boiler operations, I left NAIT to pursue a number of growing consulting opportunities. I will continue to contribute to the innovation ecosystem in Western Canada and beyond in different ways. Stay tuned! Show less
