Bio
Alan Price
Matt is an incredibly sharp senior developer with a strong understanding of data, excellent SQL skills, and varied background that means he can contribute in almost any development environment. He has a demonstrated ability to jump into incredibly complex systems and and quickly gain an understanding strong enough to both contribute and improve processes. Matt's quick learning is in no small part due to his inquisitive mindset. He is always asking questions beyond the code to truly understand, drive clarity, and influence business objectives. This mindset of always wanting to know more and learn more in a holistic way is one of the key reasons why Matt is so effective in his role. This also means that Matt will ask pointed questions about decisions that ultimate drive to either better decisions, or more directional clarity. Matt is a great teammate who deeply cares about the folks on his team and looks out for them beyond just getting the work done. He is a strong advocate for creating a healthy, engaged and productive team. Any team would be luck to have Matt bringing his expertise and advocacy.
Genghis Philip
Matt is a team-minded, delivery-obsessed developer. He was brought on to become a jack-of-all-trades developer for our legacy software and made an immediate impact understanding our domain and offering options for modern development practices. What was most impressive about his early work at Icario was that Matt was able to naturally find a balance between the ideal textbook way to do something and the fastest way to do it. He helped us identify tech debt AS we talked about it and advocated for paying it off afterwards. As Matt has grown in the role, he's become a load-bearing member of the team. He is able to onboard new developers and get mission-critical updates done ahead of schedule. As his manager, I also appreciated that he had a measured understanding of his team's health and was able to give me guidance on what I should prioritize to make the team healthier, not just "more efficient." From a technical standpoint, Matt is adaptable -- he has preferences for process and development methodology, but he is not a zealot. He finds a way to execute at a very high level regardless of environment, stack, or deployment method. That said, Matt was also crucial in leveling up our technical practice on his team: while adaptable, Matt will not coast. He's good at starting where the team is and urging incremental improvement, so that while the code gets better, so does the developer experience. Matt is a great developer and a wonderful teammate. I cannot recommend him enough.
