Bio
Nicholas Westray
Petter and I have worked together on several research projects during my time at NYU. He is someone who is mathematically very strong as well as having great awareness of how to set projects within the existing literature. He is someone I would like to do many more academic collaborations with.
Ivailo D.
I know Petter from the Math Finance program at Courant, where he was the Deputy Director, a lecturer, and a mentor. As one of the organizers of the Math Finance program, he did a great job pulling variety of resources, such as seminars, conferences, and networking events for us students, especially during the crucial times of the financial turmoil of 2007-08, where each of us had to put 5 times more effort in finding a job than would otherwise be necessary. As a lecturer, he taught in clear and elegant fashion topics such as time series analysis, empirical finance, stat arb, and algorithmic trading. As a mentor, he was my Master Thesis adviser. In all of these aspects of my career education, Petter was an influential figure and contributed a great deal to moving things forward. Indeed, the results speak for themselves. I found a great job, and so did all of my other classmates, despite the hardship in the markets at the time. I impressed at least a dozen interviewers with my empirical knowledge of markets and their microstructure -- knowledge that I obtained in Algo Trading. Finally, I undertook a great master's project with Petter and a few others, the results of which generated instant interest and positive feedback from various parts of the finance community. It is safe to say that without Petter, none of the above would have happened. I am thankful to him for much of the enlightenment and preparation for the journey I am in now, and I am sure many others share the same gratitude.

As a student in the Masters of Financial Mathematics program at NYU-Courant, Petter was my adviser and professor. As an adviser Petter was always willing to patiently give career advice, drawing from his connections and experience in the industry. As a professor, Petter presented material in a clear and organized fashion and welcomed questions and comments from students.
