Under the supervision of Prof. Hugh Watkins and Prof. Anuj Goel, I am personalising risk prediction for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, the most common genetic heart disease. Specifically, I am applying bioinformatic and ML/DL tools to build predictive models such as genetic risk scores in R and Python. Under the supervision of Prof. Yang Shi at the University of Oxford Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, I discovered several potential vulnerabilities in the childhood brain cancer, diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG). Specifically, I applied genome-wide CRISPR-knockout screening to isogenic DIPG cell lines to identify synthetic lethalities in DIPG. This was recognised by the University of Oxford Department of Biochemistry with a Departmental Project Prize. Under the supervision of Prof. Jacques Fellay, I conducted research into the application of machine learning & statistical approaches to uncover what drives accelerated aging in HIV-infected individuals. Specifically, I investigated potential epidemiological drivers of somatic mutagenesis in nuclear DNA using patient exomes via R. Under the supervision of Prof. Mark Howarth of the University of Oxford Department of Biochemistry, I conducted research towards the ab initio development of a novel therapeutic for C. difficile infection as part of the Oxford iGEM Team of 2019. Conventional molecular biology techniques as PCR; SDS-PAGE; Western blotting etc. were used in addition to Gibson assembly for genetic engineering of Escherichia coli and Lactobacillus reuteri. Additional contributions beyond the wet lab included: - Modelling Consultant via adapting MATLAB computational models to our probiotic system - Website Coding Lead via HTML/CSS Notably, the project garnered a Gold Medal at the iGEM Jamboree 2019 in addition to a nomination for the best undergraduate therapeutics project (top 5 projects). Under the supervision of Prof. Jane Allison of the University of Auckland School of Biological Sciences, I conducted full-time research into the interactions of synthetic antimicrobial peptides with model bacterial membranes in silico. Specifically, computational modelling of biological systems was achieved via molecular dynamics simulations (GROMACS), with results published in Chakraborty et al. (2021). In conjunction with the internship, I attended the following two scientific conferences in Dec 2018: - AsCA/CRYSTAL 32 in Auckland, New Zealand (Asian Crystallographic Association & Society of Crystallographers in Australia and New Zealand) - QUACCS (Quantum and Computational Chemistry Student Conference) 3.0 in Kioloa, Australia (Australian National University & Australian Association of Theoretical and Computational Chemists) Show less
