As the Special Projects Assistant I focused on implementing specific programs that stem from our department in order to better meet the needs of our community here at UC San Diego Health System. I organized and planned over fifty community events, including free health screenings to create partnerships with schools and other key community groups. I acted as the lead for our department’s external websites and monitored the success of a newly implemented social media campaign. I also organized and led private tours of the Medical Centers in La Jolla and Hillcrest for local and state elected government officials and became well versed in addressing large groups on tours and at community meetings. I managed the calendar and scheduling for the office as well as worked closely with the administration at Health Sciences to bring UC San Diego closer to the community. As the importance of research universities continues to grow in the world of public health, I find that my experiences at UC San Diego Health System truly allowed me to see the world of public health, health education and community outreach through a wide lense. UC San Diego is represented on an international level and has a huge reach throughout San Diego County and all of California. My work in the Government and Community Affairs Department prepared me for work in community affairs for a variety of companies as well as for a multitude of public health practices involving education, outreach and public relations.
