I am responsible for two lab sections a semester--approximately 40 students. My responsibilities include organizing lectures for each lab, leading the lab and guiding students through the procedures, grading both lab (dissections, quizzes, lab reports) and associated lecture materials (exams), assisting students via both office hours and e-mail, and setting up/taking down labs. My teaching philosophy is to foster an environment that is 1) driven by curiosity and excitement for hands-on learning about biology, and 2) focused on comprehending and retaining key concepts over rote memorization. There are no silly questions, and exploration and speculation are encouraged. I share my enthusiasm for the subjects I teach with my students, doing my best to remind them how fundamentally fascinating biological processes are. When questioned, I respond with questions that get the student thinking about how to reach the answer themselves. I am explicit with my expectations in terms of what students should learn from the experiences. My students and my supervisors both commended my teaching skills, and I aim to continue making education goals a focus of my career, Show less

I worked both as an individual and as a team member; often completing projects entirely on my own and just as often working with my fellow lab members to achieve a common goal. As a member of the lab, I also spent several hours a week expanding my own knowledge in the fields of ornithology, endocrinology, and embryology. Show less
