I am a dynamic leader in education, overseeing Michigan’s efforts in registered apprenticeship programs within education. I have been the team lead for the past three years on a project to strengthen pathways to early childhood, out of school time, and traditional PK-12 education. I work within the Office of Career and Technical Education, in the Career Readiness Unit. I am responsible for Education & Training, Family & Consumer Sciences, Government & Public Administration, Hospitality & Tourism, and Law, Public Safety, Corrections & Security. My goal is to grow CTE programs and guide teachers to success, to fulfill our mission to prepare students so they have the necessary academic, technical, and work behavior skills to enter, compete, and advance in education and their careers. Additionally, I am passionate about family engagement and working across offices and departments to ensure a whole child educational approach. Show less

I taught a sequence of CTE Education General courses, aka Teacher Cadet. Students enrolled in Child Development, which focused primarily on development of and functioning of the brain, along with socio-emotional development and physical development of the body. We spent a good amount of time learning best practices in brain-based learning. From there, students enrolled in Teacher Cadet, which was an introduction to education course, and then Teaching Field Experience, which exposed the student to a pre-service clinical teaching experience. We had electives in our department, such as Experiencing Special Education, which was an introduction to special education course where students spent half of the course working as peer mentors to students who had moderate to severe ASD and CI. We also had a freshman intervention course entitled Fresh Start, where students worked as peer mentors to ease the transition from middle to high school. I also worked as the Lake Orion Special Olympics Swim Coach. I oversaw the volunteers in the program and conducted developmentally appropriate swim practices. It was one of the most rewarding experiences of my professional career. During this time frame I also coached Varsity Water Polo for Lake Orion (fall 2017) and Troy United (spring 2019) Show less
