My research characterizes the development of the ventricular-subventricular zone (V-SVZ) in mice and humans using techniques such as MRI image analysis, brain tissue harvesting and dissection, 3-D modeling, and immunohistochemistry. My data will inform a computational model of V-SVZ development with clinical applications in diagnosing and treating developmental brain disorders. We have completed our data analysis and are writing a paper for submission to a peer-reviewed journal. From this experience, I have learned to apply my academic knowledge to scientific problem-solving and communicate my ideas and results in successful grant applications and award-winning poster presentations. Research Awards/Grants: Northeast Under/Graduate Organization for Neuroscience (NEURON) Conference – Nu Rho Psi Poster Award Outstanding Senior in Physiology & Neurobiology Award – I received this honor for my exceptional academic and research accomplishments. CT Institute for the Brain and Cognitive Sciences (IBACS) Undergraduate Research Grant Recipient Holster Scholar – I participated in this highly selective program supporting a small number of students in independent, in-depth, and self- designed research the summer following my first year.
