It is my pleasure to recommend Vignesh Ravi, with whom I worked as a research associate at the Ohio State University. His doctoral research is broadly in the area of high-performance systems. Specifically, he is currently exploring methods of harnessing heterogeneous compute resources, e.g., multi-core CPU, GPU, etc., simultaneously to speed up data-intensive computations. This is an increasingly important, and timely, direction of research in midst of the data deluge. In my experiences working with Vignesh, I can attest that he is able to clearly define problems and quickly find sensible solutions to them. He is extremely persistent in identifying new problems and creative solutions. This is supported by his strong publication record despite the fact that he is still relatively early in his doctoral studies. I strongly believe that he can excel and would be a great asset to any institution.

Vignesh is a thorough researcher - he identifies a very important and timely research problem, identifies "practical" and efficient solutions to address it, and implements the solutions quickly and gets the work done in a good pace. He is a quick learner and has good analytical skills that make him a good researcher.

Collaborated with researchers from NEC labs and University of Missouri as part of my Ph.D. work at Ohio state. Research works broadly in the area of virtualizing GPUs in the clusters and schedulers for CPU-GPU clusters. The collaboration was extremely productive leading to 5 publications and 3 Best Paper awards.

While state-of-the-art GPGPU research was focused on accelerating single application (job) on the GPU, I explored solutions to utilize GPUs to simultaneously accelerate multiple applications. As such, I proposed novel consolidated-based mechanisms to achieve this. This work was published in HPDC '11 and received the Best Paper Award
