Senior Biomedical Engineering students are tasked with completing a senior design project. My group was assigned to a mentor, who has requested a new and improved rehab/weight bench table to properly perform bilateral shoulder exercises for rehabilitation. We are still in the process of interviewing PT's, conducting our own research as well as finalizing on a design. The project will be completed by May of 2019.

As a final project, the class was put into groups and tasked with redesigning and improving a current medical device. My group was assigned to fracture fixation, and we decided to redesign an intramedullary nail used in femoral fractures. Our new design features a bioresorbable tip, which theoretically will degrade over time and decrease the mitigation of the nail into the knee joint, which is the most common source of post-op pain/failure. Additionally, the body of the nail features a helical ribbing surface, which increases the device fixation. Images of the redesigned intramedullary nail as well as a finite element analysis of it can be seen below.

Monitored part production while analyzing tolerances and quality. Mixed the proper materials in order to create specific polymers for various parts. Assembled, welded and trimmed parts for post production modifications. Monitored part production while analyzing tolerances and quality. • Design For Manufacturing Final Project
      • Jan 2018 - May 2018

In a Design For Manufacturing course, the class was divided into groups and tasked with a final project of designing and building a water pump. Groups were tested on overall operating head, as well as maximum flow rate against operating head. My group designed a centrifugal water pump that utilized a direct drive shaft to rotate a central impeller, which was housed within a pump casing. The pump was designed to achieve a maximum flow rate against 12 inches of head over the span of 3 minutes. At the conclusion of the course, my groups water pump came in first for operating head, and third in the maximum flow rate competition.

In a Systems, Instrumentation and Data acquisition course, groups were assigned a final project of creating a medical device- with nearly no other instructions and limitations. My group decided to create an electromyography signal processor to test muscle endurance of the bicep. The device consisted of a breadboard, electrical wires, instrumentation and unit gain amplifiers, filters, a driven right leg circuit as well as an arduino. At the conclusion of the course, our EMG signal processor was able to display legitimate values and an analysis was performed on dominant vs non-dominant bicep strength.
