Compliance Executive
-
Apr 2020 - Present
Engaging with industry stakeholders to engender compliance with the advertising rules and law (e.g. CPRs, BPRs). Presenting, producing comms and giving training seminars to ensure that advertisers of all sizes, in all media, influencers etc. understand what standards apply to their advertising. The role in Compliance takes particular focus on misleadingness and harm in advertising. Areas of my own work have focused on ad policy on social media platforms - particularly with regard to the recognition of advertising in advertorial and influencer content, AI-augmented ad regulation, the advertising of medicines, cosmetics and weight-loss products, race and ethnic stereotypes in advertising, and environmental claims in advertising. The role requires extensive communication and negotiation with advertisers to conduce compliance, however, where neccesary, taking the decision to apply measured and proportional sanctions. Sanctions work often involves inter-organisation collaboration with tech platforms (e.g. Google, Facebook) and governmental statutory bodies and other industry regulators, such as Trading Standards and the MHRA.
