I worked closely with Lesly when he was a graduate student in the Program on Dispute Resolution at the University of Massachusetts Boston. His broad professional experiences, including working as both a lawyer and educator, enriched my courses and his consistent preparation, enthusiasm, and commitment to helping others — especially young people — made him a delight to work with. I have every confidence that Lesly will be highly successful in his future professional endeavors. He would be an asset to any organization that he joins and I can’t recommend him highly enough.

I was on the Holden School Board of Directors from 2001 to 2007 and served in roles of Vice Chairperson, Development Committee Leader and Clerk. Over that time I had the great pleasure to work very closely with Lesly Michelot, who first was a teacher and then the Education Director. He worked to fulfil the school’s mission to help disadvantaged urban youth with special educational needs to have safe, satisfying and independent futures. Lesly as an administrator: In his administrative role, Lesly became knowledgeable about laws regarding special education and child protection. Lesly knew the legal facts, and more importantly, he understood the spirit of the legislation and its application to the challenging students served. His law school education was a great asset, along with his understanding of legislation. As the Education Director, Lesly did an exemplary job restructuring and managing the academic part of the program. He created teaching standards for the educational staff, shaped the staff evaluation process and managed human resources. He also assisted the Executive Director in many other ways to help run the school. His responsibilities ranged from the supervision of nine staff members to implementing the program’s educational mission. Lesly’s ability to work with kids: It was impressive how well Lesly worked with the students, forming excellent relationships with these very challenging adolescents. Those strong connections were based on mutual respect, fairness and trust, which allowed him to successfully motivate the students. Dealing with angry adolescents and avoiding serious conflicts requires quick thinking, patience and self-control. Lesly was amazing at utilizing these skills. Lesly’s success in dealing with students, parents and guardians, school department representatives and others were made possible by his skills in diplomacy. He treated everyone with respect and directed
