Within this programme, I’ve had the opportunity to gain an insight into all fields of the Law; I’ve been given work placements (and membership of the Head Start Programme) at one of London’s leading law firms: DLA Piper. I’ve also observed criminal, corporate and company legal cases at the Old Bailey, Royal Courts of Justice and Rolls Building (where I’ve also role played as a claimant in a mock trial). Joined in various group activities led by solicitors at the firm who volunteered to spend allocated times with us, the students. We had sessions to do with negotiating, debating, presenting and networking, all essential skills for the study and practicing of law, where we would briefly learn about the topic via watching presentations or a short lecture and then engage in / create a mock version of them on our own. Further Insight to the firm’s running of legal matters by work shadowing the aviation department, part of the Litigation & Regulatory team. My ‘buddy’ for the week was a paralegal, who’s work (namely, flight delays under EC Regulation 261/2004) I was able to get involved with after he taught me what ‘doing the law’ actually consisted of. I completed the assigned task of drafting six related claims letters that were due to filed later on during my time there. Moreover, during this work placement I was given the opportunity to visit the Royal Courts of Justice on a one-on-one tour with the firm’s court clerk. Show less

Worked as a team with my fellow classmates at the time to conclude a reported piece of news and present it individually. I had the voice-over role in which I spoke about an issue on climate change whilst a muted visual, also expressing the issue, was playing at the same time.
