Most of my career at Point Loma consisted of teaching courses like Genetics, Molecular Biology, and Cell Biology and Biochemistry, When I moved into the leadership of BioLogos in 2009, I wound down my teaching and finished my teaching career in Spring, 2014 with a course in Human Evolutionary Genetics. Today, I remain heavily involved in writing and discussion at the interface between science and Christian faith and am especially interested in respectful dialog with those who see the… Show more Most of my career at Point Loma consisted of teaching courses like Genetics, Molecular Biology, and Cell Biology and Biochemistry, When I moved into the leadership of BioLogos in 2009, I wound down my teaching and finished my teaching career in Spring, 2014 with a course in Human Evolutionary Genetics. BioLogos is an international foundation, the purpose of which is to show that there need not be a conflict between mainstream science and the evangelical Christian faith. I had the privilege of working with Francis Collins, Karl Giberson and Syman Stevens in starting the organization. After Francis Collins resigned the leadership of BioLogos in the summer of 2009, I had the privilege of leading the team and seeing its influence grow. We had four strategic initiatives: 1. Serve as a resource for the general public through our website. 2. Coordinate discussion with leaders of evangelical Christianity so that all will learn more about the basis of the apparent disconnect between many Christians and the thinking of mainstream science. 3. To provide opportunities for science teachers, especially those in Christian schools, to learn more about evolutionary creation. 4. To foster the building of a community of scholars who, each from his/her own discipline, would seek to address the concerns that many Christians have about scientific findings. My greatest privilege was to work with an amazing team of individuals--both staff and those more loosely connected with the BioLogos community. Any success we had was due to their accomplishments. Today BioLogos is being very ably led by Dr. Deborah Haarsma, and the BioLogos headquarters has moved from San Diego to Grand Rapids, MI. I continue to be involved in the Science/Christian faith discussion through my work with Point Loma Nazarene University, The Colossian Forum and as the Senior Advisor for Dialog at BioLogos.
