This was an internship that allowed me to live and work with the owner of a rubber manufacturing plant in Guangzhou, China. For the three months the internship took place I experienced and learned how to conduct myself within the Chinese business culture. Over the three months I worked closely with both the sales and marketing teams. My duty was to assess and provide information about what Star Group could do to improve its international competitiveness. Overall I presented multiple area's where the company could improve such as how they communicate to their foreign partners and how they can better expand their influence in the foreign community through means such as conventions. This was a class trip to China where eleven students, including myself, had the opportunity to not only teach Chinese students, ages 6 to 17, English, but also and opportunity to live with them and experience life in a middle class area of China. For twenty days we stayed In a small town with a large population and gained exposure to their daily life, school system, traditions and even political view points. The main goal; however, was to teach English to Chinese students. American students used story boards, short skits and songs to help emphasize pronunciation and gramar points. Show less
