      As practical part of the Lean Enterprise Summer Program coursed at the University of Tennessee, US, I was part of a multicultural team where we had to apply Lean concepts in a real project at Boatmate Trailers, LLC. The objective of the project was to improve the factory productivity by mapping the whole process and identifying improvement opportunities by reducing any kind of waste, whether it is in transport, inventory, motion, waiting, over production, over processing, defects or people skills. The main Lean tools used were the DRIVES model (Define constraint, Recognize constraint value stream, Identify the critical path, Visualize the root cause, Execute the lean design, Sustain the lean design) and the A3 problem solving Guide. The project outcome was a proposal to improve the productivity of a better quality and more solid long term solution trailer from 18 to 30 units produced a day by standardizing the welding process resulting in less variation, more reliability and thus reducing in 40% the time of boards installation.
