In this newly created role, my primary focus was strengthening awareness of the Perimeter Institute brand in key global demographics and geographic areas. This role owned primary responsibility for media and influencer outreach, story pitching, scheduling interviews, maintaining existing media relationships, and identifying new media opportunities. Over this period I placed articles in The Globe and Mail, The Guardian, The Economist, Maclean’s, Wired, Gizmodo, Scientific American, and more. In 2018, my media relations work won a national Prix D'Excellence Bronze Award from the Canadian Council for the Advancement of EducationI also created plans for coordinating marketing, communications, social media and media relations actions tied to special events, and announcements, including a visit by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Finally, I led projects to create branded content aimed at developing leads for Perimeter’s advancement (donors) and educational outreach (students/teachers) departments, including the "Forces of Nature" content series, which won a 2018 Prix D'Excellence Gold Award from the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education.

As Perimeter Institute, the world's largest theoretical physics research hub, I worked to develop new media and influencer relationships, growing awareness of Perimeter’s research, training, and educational outreach activities. In my first year I secured media coverage in The Globe and Mail, Scientific American, The Economist, and more. I also created a system of partnerships with top media outlets and science organizations to share Perimeter’s public lecture series webcasts, resulting in an average live viewership is approximately 1,500/month (10,000+ on-demand/month) in the first year. I helped create and disseminate the award-winning “Slice of PI” series of fun, shareable physics-related content, and developed the organization’s first social media strategy.
