• Currently advocating for Gregory’s Law, a bedside identification legislation intended to expedite the identification of unidentified persons in the hospital setting and improve family notification. Currently working with PA State Representative to have legislation rewritten and re-presented this session. • Working in collaboration with UPMC to promote In Case of Emergency Awareness Campaign as well as writing and revising system-wide policies in regard to unidentified patients. • Speaker at the Emergency Nurse Association National Conference 2018 with the presentation His name is Gregory, not John Doe. The presentation is based on an accumulation of research into unidentified patients in the emergency department setting and included sharing my deceased son’s story to educated nurses on the importance of remembering the person behind the diagnoses, to facilitate policy changes in emergency departments across the nation in regard to unidentified patients, to update them on the bedside identification legislation in process in Pennsylvania, and to promote In Case of Emergency (ICE) awareness education. • Received proclamation of recognition from the Allegheny County Council for initiating In Case of Emergency Awareness Campaign in Southwestern Pennsylvania. • Educating the community and first responders on the In Case of Emergency features available on smartphone devices: how to set them up and how first responders can access the necessary information to expedite appropriate care and emergency contact notification. • UPMC Shadyside Emergency Department: ER direct patient care duties included assessing, triaging and caring for patients with a wide variety of medical issues ranging from acute ambulatory care to the stabilization and treatment of high acuity patients that required resuscitation, advanced cardiac life support and airway management including patients that experienced stroke, myocardial infarctions, as well as those that were vent dependent. Many of our patients were oncology patients from the Hillman Cancer Center. As a designated stroke center we cared for a plethora of stroke patients. Emphasis was placed on improving standards of practice, meeting and exceeding state guidelines, continuing education and improving processes within the department. Additional responsibilities included collaboration with patients, family, physicians and ancillary staff to coordinate quality patient outcomes. Also presented staff education resulting from my research study on triage methods in the ED. • 3 Pavilion Shadyside: Post-op floor 2005-2007. Telemetry unit. Cared for variety of post-op patients including those recovering from plastic surgery procedures ranging from maxillofacial procedures to abdominoplasty. Also cared for patients recovering from minimally invasive orthopedic surgeries and laparoscopic procedures such as cholecystectomy. Served as charge nurse, preceptor for nursing students and new hires and assisted unit director by making department schedule. Facilitated new staff orientation to unit, wrote unit newsletter and developed a “how to guide” for new hires. • 6 Main Shadyside: Cardio-pulmonary/med-surg/telemetry unit- started as nurse intern in 2003, hired as RN in 2004.
