    • Grade 8 English Teacher
      • Jul 2020 - Present

Coming into the Grade 8 English Program, my goal has been to incorporate more literature. Thus far, I have implemented a literature circle unit that focuses on inclusivity with titles focusing on racism, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, and LGBTQ+. Additionally, I have created a short story unit that focuses on Gothic Literature. These additions allow for differentiation within the program while maintaining a level of rigor for the students.

    • Grade 7 & 8 English as a Second Language Teacher
      • Aug 2014 - Jul 2020

I had the privilege of developing a two-tiered Grade 7 & 8 ESL Program (with my main focus on the Level 2 Advanced Program) in order to create a learning environment that is highly conducive to student success. This program allowed the Level 1 Beginner Program teacher and I to have smaller class sizes that would group students together based on their English ability. This program required a lot of flexibility and collaboration between the ESL teachers and the administrative team at the School. I was also responsible for tracking student data and communicating student movements to various departments within the School and our administrative team. Furthermore, I collaborated with subject-teachers to enhance the learning process for the ELLs in their other courses. The Level 2 Advanced Program that I focused on provides students with the skills necessary in order to be successful in the mainstream Grade 7 & 8 Language Arts programs. All lessons and activities that I designed and implemented utilized online tools to enrich the learning experiences for the English Language Learners (ELLs) that fell within STEPs 3-6 as per the Ontario STEP Documents. All course expectations were modified from the Grade 7 & 8 Ontario Language Arts curriculum in order to meet the needs of the students and the School. Students had the opportunity for multiple assessments through conversations, observations, and products through assessments AS, OF, and FOR learning as per Ontario's Growing Success document. Students also participated in small group activities to allow for tailored and regular feedback to promote student success. I also initiated and maintained communication with families regarding the progress of their children.

    • Grade 7 & 8 Drama Teacher
      • Aug 2014 - Jul 2020

During my time as a Drama teacher, I designed unit plans and lessons that fostered an environment that required my students to use creative and critical thinking skills to communicate specific messages to their intended audience. Furthermore, I implemented tasks that encouraged collaboration among peers that held all students accountable within the group assignment. It was also my priority to ensure that my students felt safe within our learning environment in order for them to perform with confidence. Many of my Drama students were ELLs, therefore I implemented strategies that engaged and supported ELLs within the drama classroom as well as still challenging the mainstream students.

    • Grade 7 & 8 English Teacher
      • Aug 2014 - Jul 2015

I co-taught Grade 7 and 8 English with two separate teachers. During this time, we collaborated to create units and lesson plans based on the Ontario Grade 7 & 8 Language Arts curriculum. We also worked together to create authentic assessments that students would find applicable to their daily lives. Within the classroom, I delivered engaging lessons that kept students motivated and interested in learning. The lessons also required students to use and explore new technology, especially with a focus on media literacy. I also implemented strategies into my classroom instruction in order to improve reading comprehension and fluency.
