Mick and I worked together in the Pretreatment team at the VDP project for several months. During that time I found Mick to be a highly professional engineer and manager who worked hard to deliver several packages of work in the challenging project environment that was the Desal project.

Since Mick joined WLSL 5 years ago, he has proved a huge asset to not only the company, but directly to me as my Survey Manager. Mick has taken on much of the day to day workload, so freeing me up to work more 'On the Business', rather than in it. If you have any Land or Measured Building Survey projects in the pipeline, please do not hesitate to get in touch with Mick, who I know will give it his full attention.

The Victorian Desalination Plant was a complex $3.5 billion infrastructure project designed to secure Victorias water future by providing 150 billion litres of potable water yearly. At the peak of this complex multi-disciplinary project peak there were over 3500 personnel working on the 263 hectare site. My initial project role was within the pre-treatment area and principally involved overseeing the construction of various civil and structural elements of the Screen & Feed building, along with its associated water delivery structures. Once those work packages were complete my second main role on the project was within the infrastructure team constructing site roads and civil works such as dunes and various water-storage structures. With many of these packages I was responsible for all aspects of the works: - Procurement of materials and services from specification through tendering and the subsequent contract management - Planning and scheduling of all works - Design management through RFIs and liaison with both client representatives and designers - Cost forecasting and control, as well as detailed productivity monitoring - Day-to-day on-site management of works through liaison with foremen and trades - Stakeholder management through comprehensive communication and reporting strategies - Implementing quality processes and ensuring that all associated documentation was completed to a high standard - Close out of work packages both from a quality, cost and contract perspective Key Achievement My principal responsibility during my time within the Pre-treatment team was the delivery of the $4.5 Million (4000sqm) roof of the S&F Building. Comprising of modular roof panels covered with a waterproof membrane and a planted ‘living roof’ system, I managed all aspects of the site works and the resolution of the many associated design, procurement, and planning issues. The roof works were delivered successfully within schedule and to meet their original budget. Show less

After several years working on site an engineer an opportunity arose to join respected site engineering and surveying company Warner LS as a project manager. With a proven 30 year track record within the construction industry Warners delivers site services across the building, construction, development, heritage, infrastructure and petro-chemical disciplines. As a project manager I successfully delivered engineering and surveying projects; from the initial scope definition through client liaison phase, through to briefing project personnel, managing the resources required, managing all client liaison and access arrangements, reporting to stakeholders, undertaking Quality Assurance checks on all project deliverables and finally, project close-out and invoicing. Other responsibilities included: - Being directly involved in the specification and tendering process for all projects - Day-to-day management of Warners staff and subcontractors - Overseeing the QA documentation for each delivered project - Client liaison and stakeholder engagement Key Achievement: The headline project during my tenure at Warners was the company’s three year involvement in the London Gatwick Airport North Terminal Redevelopment. After personally preparing and presenting Warner’s successful tender for the single biggest project in the Division’s history I was then assigned as the dedicated Project Manager working closely with the clients (BAA & Costain Group). This position involved the management of all aspects of the large scale survey project within what was the challenging environment of a busy working airport, from coordinating the site access and security for the multiple site teams and contractors, through to overseeing the CAD production of the resultant site plans. All data was delivered to the client’s deadlines and requirements. Building upon the good relationships I had developed Warners’ maintained a strong site presence throughout the subsequent construction phase. Show less

Principal Projects: - Chelsea Bridge Wharf (Bovis Lend Lease) (18 months) A large scale residential development in Battersea, London - Paternoster Square (Bovis Lend Lease) (12 months) Multiple multi-storey commercial building development adjacent to St Paul’s Cathedral, London Working as part of the project management team on several large, complex construction developments in central London I was responsible for coordinating and scheduling the establishment of all site survey control, as-built surveys and the resolution of spatial design issues. There was also a significant involvement in the quality assurance and management systems throughout the project life cycle. I managed all day-today work planning for a team of site engineers and technicians, resource scheduling, training, financial control and report preparation (both in-house and to client). This role required me to work closely with all trades and contractors on-site to ensure all site works work was conducted in a timely and accurate manner across the project. As the main liaison between site contractors and the project design team I was the main communication conduit in regard to any site coordination or design issues. I had to successfully work with all stakeholders resolve these issues to the satisfaction of all parties in a 'best-for-project' manner. Show less

Oct 2000 - Apr 2002
For SDS I worked on a variety of site engineering and surveying projects across the United Kingdom; including pipeline, bridge and wind farm sites across Scotland, sewer surveys in Dublin, photogrammetric control work across the UK and measured building surveying in London airports. I also provided site engineering services on a number of construction sites in and around Edinburgh. As a senior team member I led engineering teams in remote locations and for extended periods away from the office, handling all of the associated logistical requirements as well as day-to-day work planning and execution. I was one of the principle team members in the establishment of a London office (to operate within Heathrow Airport). In addition to site works, there was a strong administrative, logistical management and tendering role that developed my interest and affinity for the project management profession . During this time I also developed a high level of computer literacy through comprehensive reporting, data processing and various CAD drawing packages Show less
