I attended the Grace Hopper Celebration for Women in Technology in Houston, Texas in October 2015 as a faculty scholar. GHC is the world’s largest technical conference for women technologists. I was selected to be a faculty scholar based on the self-study research project that I completed that examined the gender gap in our technology culture at the Virginia Center for Excellence in Teaching (VCET) STEM Academy at George Mason University. The Anita Borg Institute sponsored my conference registration. I appreciated the opportunity to speak one-on-one with Megan Smith, the United States Chief Technology Officer (CTO) in the Office of Science and Technology Policy and Hadi Partovi, co-founder of education non-profit Code.org. I connected with many passionate students, educators, and professionals who are technology innovators. GHC keynote speakers and panelists included Hilary Mason, Clara Shih, Blake Irving, Susan Wojcicki, Sheryl Sandberg, Reshma Saujani, Maxine Williams, Chelsea Clinton, Jack Dorsey, and Manuela M. Veloso. Show less
