Embracing the values of being fast; empowered and open I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at OLX. My primary focus being the development of infrastructure tooling methodologies to allow OLX Sub Saharan Africa to migrate from "real steel" managed RackSpace servers to Amazon AWS. Working with great engineers from around the globe and locally to both investigate technical direction and create proof of concept infrastructure orchestration systems has been an incredible experience which allowed me to skill up hugely in the areas of full stack automation and docker clustering. Environment:OLX Sub Saharan Africa runs the largest online classifieds platform in Africa. Amazon AWS and Kubernetes powered infrastructure built using Terraform and Ansible with a mostly PHP MySQL app stack.Accomplishments - Pioneered our infrastructure orchestration project from proof of concept through to running all production and testing systems.- Reduced infrastructure costs by 70% +- Reduced deployment times by a factor of 10x- Kubernetes / docker in production- Production predictability by means of dockerized immutable infrastructure - Migrated all server infrastructure from RackSpace to Amazon AWS- Assisted in drafting the standards form which our global infrastructure orchestration methods and technologies are being implemented.- Help build a great infrastructure team Show less

Dealing with first round automation fundamentals through to implementing high availability database solution in Mysql; Solr & MongoDB. Maintaining and expanding our Xen server footprint whilst using Amazon Web services for automated testing environments. I thoroughly enjoyed deep diving into problems across the stack to provide practical solutions and improvements. Environment Largest E-Commerce retailer in South Africa. Xen virtualisation on hosted real steel servers, serving a mostly php; nginx; varnish; Solr; MySQL stack. Accomplishments - Physically relocate hosted servers without negative impact on daily business - Resolved data integrity issues - Ensured redundancy and high availability across all data backends - Architecture committee, assisting in the move from monolithic to SOA Show less
