For my High Networth clients who want to reduce taxable passive income from their portfolio, I bring the Private Placement Life Insurance programs. For U.S. Tax-Exempt Institutional Investors (Institutions) such as Pension Funds, Foundations and Endowments are subject to U.S. tax on Unrelated Business Taxable Income (UBTI) on certain directly held assets, including investment funds and alternative investments. By purchasing a properly structured Group Variable Annuity (GVA) from Lombard International, which invests in these types of assets through an Insurance Company Separate Account . As a result, the Institution can reduce taxes otherwise imposed on direct asset holdings and simplify the administrative complexity of the transaction and, as the SA holder, remains solely responsible for all tax related federal K-1 and state filings associated with the assets.

      This was a once in a life-time opportunity! Computer Language Research – CLR – invented software to print tax returns for their Fast-Tax company. This software allowed Fast-Tax to stop printing blank forms, and then feeding them through “tractor feed line printers”. Remember those! I was hired by the President of CLR to attempt to sell this “in-house” code to other corporations who were using Xerox 9700 laser printers. Over the course of 9 years – we built that idea into a $14m/yr company. We revolutionized the way all Insurance Companies and Banks by eliminating all pre-printed forms, and manual document assembly. What a great way to start my career.
